By Anna Parker

California is one of the most geographically diverse states in the United States with many natural features. Hot springs are some of the most spectacle natural features that make California a truly amazing place to visit. Hot springs can be defined as stream of water that is ejected to the surface of the earth from underground. These features usually form naturally without the influence of human beings. Here are facts regarding Hot springs in California.

The temperature of the ejected water is higher than the temperature of air and the human body. During winter, the surrounding land is usually covered in ice but the water in the springs remains hot or warm. Sometimes the water produces hot bubbles which make it to be turbulent. These features are formed through various ways.

One of the methods through which this strange phenomenon is formed is heating of water underground. The water is usually heated by surrounding rocks and as its temperature rises, it expands and starts to rise to the surface of the earth. The pressure built in the hot water makes it to eject as a hot spring. The amount of pressure in the water determines how high the stream of water is ejected.

Once the water gets to the surface, it forms a pool in most cases. However, there are a few cases where the water goes several feet high before falling back to the surface. A natural water fountain is formed in such a case. Geothermal energy can be produced in cases where the water comes out at a very high pressure.

Several different kinds of minerals are usually contained in the water. According to common belief among some people, this water can cure certain skin diseases like eczema. No evidence exists at the moment to substantiate the claims however. Many geothermal springs exist in the state California, providing people with great places to relax as they soak their bodies in the warm water.

There are many of these features in the state. Some of the most known are Vichy Spring Resort, Sierra Spring Resort and Retreat Center, Desert Spring, Travertine Spring, and Wilbur Spring. Others include Indian Spring Resort and Spa, The Spring Resort and Spa, and Beverly Spring. These facilities attract people from all the states in the United States and across the entire world.

The Vichy Spring Resort is only two hours away from San Francisco and it has been in existence for over 165 years. The water in most of the springs named above is over 100 degrees F, with high amounts of carbon-dioxide. The facilities feature large swimming pools that are the same size as pools used in Olympic competitions. There are other natural features in the vicinity of most of these facilities too.

People are advised to consider these facilities whenever they are planning to go for a trip. The cost charged by various facilities differs from one facility to the other. Services are cheap in some facilities. On the other hand, one may be needed to part with a lot of money to access services from some facilities. Although the facilities charge differently, one can always find something friendly to their budget.
