The Story Behind The History Fort Myers Florida

By Jony Mozen

For a country to stand and to protect its sovereignty, it must have a well-equipped army and infrastructure that can be used to repel the enemy in case of an attack. The wars that were fought in the past made the government of that day to come up with great structures, which are still standing up to this day. The article below will unveil the history Fort Myers Florida has as recorded.

The fortress is in Florida situated strategically on the riverside with one side of the wall facing the waters. As recorded in the history of Fort Myers the castle could be defended by a few soldiers. This is because if the Indians were to carry out an ambush, they would automatically come on three sides of the walls and barely on the side of the river.

The American soldiers were the first people who had the idea of constructing the garrison and immediately after it served its purpose, they abandoned it. However, they repossessed it again and they ended up using it only two times as a barracks. After they were done with using the garrison, they abandoned it again but this time a permanent settler and his family came and dwelt in it.

The initial plan for building this masterpiece was to act as a base for the American army personnel in their campaign against the red Indians. For the American soldiers to end the aggression of the Indians permanently, they had to camp in their territory first. However, to fight the war effectively they needed a place to stay and the garrison was built to facilitate the shelter.

The soldiers of the American army were highly advantaged by this building because they were assured of a place to seek refuge in case the war does not favor them. The high walls and the strong gates will make it difficult for their enemies to ambush them successfully. The structure of the garrison would also enable them to strike their enemies while inside the walls.

The river bordering the garrison offers something of interest to do by the inhabitants of the fortress. This is because the river provided opportunities to pursue other interesting and gainful activities. Such activities include fishing, swimming and boat riding. The river offers the most precious commodity for the soldiers, which is the water.

When the soldiers, the original owners and builders of the fort stayed in it, they were in charge of protecting it. It is obvious that when a war is fought damages do occur in the process. When the damages are not repaired then the fortress is likely to be brought down during the fight. Therefore, the builders of the fortress were responsible in keeping its walls strong from collapsing.

The climate of the region is also a factor that made it a suitable place of residence. Understand that many settlers came from very cold places in Europe. However, in this area, there is the tropical savannah climate. The temperatures in this place are averagely eighteen degrees Celsius. There is also sufficient rainfall and short but warm winters.
