St. Maarten covers the southern portion of the island of Saint Martin, which is located in the Caribbean. It is a popular vacation destination and each year many tourists take the time to visit. Anyone that makes the trip will find a host of enjoyable St Maarten activities to try while they are on the island.

With the beach being a big attraction at the location, water-based activities are one of the most popular things to do. There are numerous beautiful spots around the coastline to enjoy swimming in the turquoise waters that the Caribbean Sea is famous for. Water sports are also popular and many beach resorts are set up so that visitors can try their hand at surfing, kayaking, paddle boarding, and other action pursuits.

There are plenty of boats that will take tourists on a trip out to deeper water. This includes those owned by diving clubs, with these organizations enabling anyone to get in the water with some scuba gear. This provides the chance to get up close to some sea life such as rays and turtles or dive to the bottom to see some old ships that sunk to the depths around the island.

The waters around St. Maarten are teeming with fish and there are a number of operators that take advantage of this by offering a deep sea fishing experience. Visitors that set sail on these will have the chance to catch some big game species, with the crew knowing just where this is possible. This could find guests reeling in a sailfish or tuna before the day is out.

Keeping your feet on dry land provides the opportunity to enjoy a few different sports. St. Maarten is home to a lovely eighteen-hole golf course that anyone can play. Those that like riding can get on horseback to see the countryside of a nature park. A different way of riding around the nature trails is on bike and these can also be trekked on foot.

Sightseeing is a definitely an activity that visitors should try to do on the island. This allows them to take in a few historic locations with the Amsterdam and Willem I forts being a couple of these. The main town of Philipsburg also has a number of great attractions to take in during a tour. These include the Courthouse building and a museum documenting the history of the area.

Shopping is a popular pastime on the island to search for some mementos and souvenirs of a trip. The added advantage for this on St. Maarten is that it is a duty free region. A trip to the town center streets in Philipsburg is the best idea for this, with a number of retail outlets on these offering a wide variety of goods for sale.

One of the top attractions on the island is St. Maarten Park and this is especially the case for children. They will enjoy seeing the animals that call the zoo in the park home. A huge play area for kids is also located in the park, and this has plenty of space and playground equipment to keep children happy for hours.
